Chapli Kabab Recipe

Chapli Kabab is a famous Pashtun-style kebab from Pakistan and Afghanistan. It’s a spiced ground meat patty that’s typically made with beef, lamb or chicken. Here’s a recipe for Chapli Kabab:

Ingredients:

  • 500g ground beef or lamb
  • 2 medium onions, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup tomato, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh coriander leaves, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp ginger paste
  • 2 tbsp garlic paste
  • 2 tsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp cumin powder
  • 2 tsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • Oil for shallow frying

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or lamb, onions, tomatoes, coriander leaves, mint leaves, ginger paste, garlic paste, coriander powder, cumin powder, red chili powder, turmeric powder, and salt. Mix well and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  2. Add the beaten eggs and cornmeal to the mixture and knead until everything is well combined.
  3. Divide the mixture into equal portions and shape them into flat round patties.
  4. Heat some oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Place the patties in the skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side or until they are browned and cooked through.
  5. Once cooked, remove the kababs from the skillet and place them on a paper towel to remove any excess oil.
  6. Serve the Chapli Kababs hot with naan, salad and mint chutney.
