Metal Slug X is a run and gun video game released by SNK for the Neo Geo arcade and home platform in 1996. It is the fourth title in the Metal Slug series, following 1994's Metal Slug, and was succeeded by Metal Slug 3 in 2000. Metal Slug X was developed to commemorate SNK's 20th anniversary, featuring several new gameplay mechanics and a graphical style resembling that of Metal Slug 2. The game also takes inspiration from other media created by SNK, such as The King of Fighters '96 and Samurai Shodown: Warriors Rage.
